Gweek Players presents A Wounded Pride, written specially for the occasion by James Oliver (Charles Condomine in Blythe Spirit) and directed by Bruce Austen.
On 26th and 28th January 2023 at GWEEK VILLAGE HALL, Gweek Players hosted a fund raising event (A Murder Twystery). This was both to raise money for Gweek Players and Invictus Trust Cornwall.
There was a twist, hence the title.
Instead of running a play with a first half, an interval followed by the second half, the audience watched the same play twice! A compére explained at the beginning of the evening that they are going to watch a murder mystery lasting about half an hour. There would be the usual interval where hot pasties were served, and then, upon their return to their tables they would find a musical instrument. They then watch the same play again. However, the second performance contained certain differences. These were audio or visual (the actors lines did not change – at least, not deliberately) and it was the audience’s job to spot any differences.
Every time an audience member spotted a difference they made a sound with the particular instrument on their table and stood up. On the compére’s whistle, the actors then ‘froze’ whilst the compére checks what has been spotted. Chips were awarded (and swapped or stolen) for each correct spot and the table with the most chips at the end of the event won an edible delightful prize.
