Play Synopsis:

Set in the 1880s at the dawn of the age of electricity, the play delves into the bizarre historical fact that doctors used vibrators to treat ‘hysterical’ women (and some men). The story revolves around Dr. Givings, a proper gentleman and scientist who innocently invents a device for treating “hysteria,” and his young wife, who becomes curious about the activities in the next room. As new patients enter their household, the dynamics of their marriage are tested, leading to profound revelations about love and connection.
